Red River Prescribed Fire

About Us
"FIRE WITH PURPOSE"
Our Vision

We envision landscapes and communities where fire is understood, respected, and responsibly applied as a natural and essential process. Red River Prescribed Fire (Rx) strives to lead the return of good fire to the land—reducing the risk of catastrophic wildfire, strengthening working lands, and restoring ecological resilience for future generations.
Through experienced leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to safety and stewardship, we aim to set the standard for private-land prescribed fire across the region.

Our Story
Red River Prescribed Fire (Rx) was founded to bring “good fire” back to the land safely, deliberately, and with experience that can’t be taught in a classroom.
After a long career with the U.S. Forest Service, founder Doug Currie stepped away from federal service with the conviction that too many landscapes were suffering not from fire, but from the absence of it. Decades of fire exclusion, increasing fuel loads, and expanding development had turned a natural process into a growing risk, especially on private and working lands that lacked access to experienced prescribed fire leadership.

Doug brings more than 30 years of experience in wildland fire suppression, prescribed fire planning and implementation, and aviation operations. He has led complex burns, managed large wildfire incidents, and worked across jurisdictions where safety, coordination, and sound decision making mattered every day. That experience shaped the foundation of Red River Rx.

Red River Prescribed Fire was created to translate federal-level fire management expertise to private lands, where landowners, ranchers, conservation groups and agencies need reliable, professional fire implementation they can trust. The company’s approach is rooted in thorough planning, conservative decision-making, disciplined execution, and respect for the land and the people who depend on it.

Today, Red River Rx works alongside landowners and partners to reduce wildfire risk, restore fire-adapted ecosystems, improve rangeland and wildlife habitat, and reintroduce fire as a functional land-management tool. Every project reflects the same values that guided decades of public service: safety first, accountability always, and stewardship for the long term.

Red River Rx exists because good fire matters and when it’s done right it benefits the land, the community, and the next generation of stewards.
